Avery Schmidt '27 Recruiting Profile

I started playing basketball in Grade 7 — and I wish I'd started sooner! I LOVE the game. It's my favourite of the sports I play by far. I'm glad my Dad is so willing to practice with me every time I want to go to the court, and that my Mom is always sharing new home workout videos with me.

I was the Co-Captain and Co-MVP of my Grade 8 team in high school (high school starts in Grade 8 in BC.) And I was thrilled to make such a high-level club team as VK as a U14. I loved travelling across Canada and the U.S. for tournaments with VK, and it was great to win Bball Nationals in Canada in July 2023.

In high school this year, I played up to the Grade 10 team when I was in Grade 9, and I was the team Captain and leading scorer, averaging 16 points a game. And I made it back onto VK as a U15 this year. We're the only club team from Western Canada invited to Nike's EYBL tournaments in the States this spring and summer. I can't wait for another great season of club basketball, travel, and fun with my teammates!
