My name is Madeline Mersch, most people call me Maddie. I am a rising senior at Alameda High School in Alameda California, a small island on the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. I have participated in basketball since the 3rd grade and if I get the opportunity, I hope to continue playing in college. I have been on my high school varsity basketball team since my freshman year, and captain for the past three years. I have also participated in varsity softball since freshman year, played JV volleyball my freshman year, and have played AAU basketball since I was in 5th grade.
When I started playing sports at a young age, I never imagined the impact they would have on me as an individual. Learning how to be a good teammate, how it feels to win, how to lose the right way, prioritizing what’s important, learning discipline and gaining confidence in myself are just a few examples of some of the important life lessons that sports has taught me, and certainly not the original reason I started playing if I'm being honest.
As a junior during the pandemic, I had three AP courses and one honors course, maintained a 4.5 GPA, played on three teams, and still found time to help out in my community. My workouts and routine have kept me going during this time, and I’m blessed to have something in my life that keeps me grounded.
I realize I still have a lot to learn, and hope to continue growing in a good program at a top school that will help me continue my studies while pursuing my dream to play basketball at the collegiate level. Thank You.
