I have been fortunate to be apart of a strong basketball program for 4 years now in High School. With dedicated coaches and spectators, my dad is my biggest influence. He has taught me the real game of basketball along with the dedication and determination. He is a self made businessman working in the Construction field for along time now. I became interested in basketball when I was 8 years old following my dad after being with my dad coaching jr high for 13 years and for playing town league. This sport has taught me so many things about myself. I have learned that I have to have confidence to help myself because I don’t have a lot of the advantages from the city I live in. This sport clicked with me and it was a way to cope with everything around me. My family is a huge basketball fan at any level.
Academics are extremely important to my family and I. My biggest academic goal is to gain scholarships from my grades. This requires a lot of organization on my part, which can be challenging. The obstacles that I have faced was older girls playing in front of me, I overcome these challenges by showing up and doing what coach says. I have always tried to play as many sport I possibly can, this has taught me how to lead a team as well stay motivated through long season. I played volleyball and soccer up until my Sophomore year in High School.
Living in Southwest Colorado can often be an obstacle in sports. We don’t get a lot of exposure and we have to travel hours to attend any additional sports camps/trainings. I have overcome this by showing up committed to practice, weight training and any additional activities. Being a part of a small school mean I have to learn many positions as well. Although I am focused on being a a point guard. I realize my team may need me elsewhere at times and I do my best to fill in many spots if needed.
Some of my accomplishments in basketball are starting from Jr High my 7th and 8th grade year we were back to back undefeated champs with me as a starting guard. It transferred over into my first summer ball going into High School, we won a lot of game. Season started and I was 6th man to a team who got placed 1st team in RPI and finished 5th and my individual award was 2nd team All- Conference. My sophomore and Junior year I was a starting guard to a team ranked in the top 3 all season and finished losing to a team who won state in the Elite Eight. We are a very competitive and dedicated team. This year is only the beginning to my life in basketball and want to carry it on through college ball.
