Coming into a program that was overlooked and had not made the division playoffs in ten years, I knew that I had to be driven and focused to make a difference. Very early on, the goal was set. The 2016-17 girls varsity basketball team was going to make the playoffs. This required discipline, focus, and teamwork. As a freshman, I was in a unique place of wanting to prove that I could work hard and contribute but also learn from the more senior players. Our season was ultimately the best in years and we achieved our goal. This team showed me that even if you are considered the 'underdog', you can still strive for a successful season and achieve the goals you set forth.
Similarly, I have always set goals for myself in the classroom. I have consistently challenged myself with a rigorous course load. Specifically, I have watched my love for math continue to grow as I am exposed to more complex concepts. I look forward to continuing my academic achievements in college and learning at a higher level.
So far, my athletic and academic lives have been parallel paths of setting goals, encouraging challenges, and knowing that with hard work and dedication success is always attainable. This mindset will follow me wherever I go.
