Personal Statement
My name is Aniyah Jones. I am a 5’9” guard / wing currently playing at Grovetown High School located in Grovetown, Georgia. My ultimate goal is to play basketball at the college level while gaining a great education.
Since my freshman year I’ve been a varsity starter and it’s been an unforgettable journey. I had to earned my starting spot over some pretty good upperclassmen but with hard work, dedication and motivation from my family and teammates I earned my spot and never looked back. Unfortunately, the summer after my sophomore year I tore my ACL two tournaments into the AAU season, which also sidelined me my junior year. Through perseverance, determination, self-motivation, and my faith in God, I’m ready to compete at a high level and continue my journey.
I pride myself on being a student of the game and a leader on the court. From an early age, I’ve always loved watching and critiquing myself through film review. Since I can remember I’ve always found myself taking charge even when I wasn’t put in charge, which has helped me on and off of the court. I also take pride in being a quick learner. This has given me an edge when it comes to scouting opposing teams by not only learning my position but all positions in different offensive and defensive sets.
Although I love basketball, I take my academics very seriously. I’ve always held myself to a high standard when it comes to academics, so failure has never been an option. I’ve taken honors math for the past four years of high school and I've also taken at minimum of two AP classes every year while maintaining a 3.4 GPA.
In me, you will find someone with a high basketball IQ, mental toughness and a strong physical defensive presence. Leading by example, encouraging and getting my teammates involved are my top attributes. I am very coachable and I want to attend a college where I can push myself both in the classroom and on the basketball court. I strive to be one of the hardest working recruits you'll find. I hope to become a great role model to my peers and those that follow me in my community.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
