Brooke Rickard '12 Recruiting Profile

Aloha!
  My name is Brooke Rickard. I'm a 5'4", 125 lb. Senior at Kamehameha Schools on the island of O‘ahu. My first experience playing basketball was for my school team in the seventh grade.
  I read a book about basketball a week before my seventh grade try-outs in order to learn the positions and lines on the court. Prior to that season I had no experience whatsoever. I had to work harder than my teammates in order to "catch up" to their skill level. It took me 2 years of not playing in any games to finally experience court time. My sophomore year I was privileged to lead my team as their captain, and my dream of playing on the Division 1 team came true my Junior year. I've learned what it's like to have to give 110% to make your way from the bottom. My passion for the game and the happiness it gives me is my drive to work hard. It is through this game that I have found who I am, and that I have learned that I can do anything imaginable if I put not only hard work into it, but most importantly, if I put my heart into it.
  I would prefer a college along the West Coast. Also I would love to go somewhere where I can experience the four different seasons. In Hawaii, we aren't lucky enough to have that experience.
  I'm looking for a school that will provide me with an education to fulfill my dreams in both Psychology and Writing. I would prefer a smaller school because student-to-student, as well as professor-to-student, connections are much more intimate. I am looking to play at either the Division 2 level, or at the NAIA Intercollegiate level. I would prefer either the Catholic or Christian religion since I am familiar with both.
   After High School, I'd like to pursue a career in Psychology. I love to help people and I feel that Psychology is a great way to help people through their hardships. I also wanted to study English Writing in college. I've always had a passion for writing, and I'm hoping one day to write and publish a novel.
  My goal as an athlete is to just play college basketball. Basketball is much more than a game to me. It is how I found myself. It is through this game that I've learned so many things about myself that I would never have guessed. It's been my outlet from stress at school or at home, and it's the only thing I can do for hours without noticing the time go by. It's my passion and it is who I am.
