My love for basketball started at the age of 11, just as I was entering junior high school. I had a particular interest with bouncing a basketball. That interest led me to one of my greatest strengths of being able to handle the basketball with and without pressure defense. This talent quicky caught the eye of Moses Wyatt, my junior high coach, who taught me the fundamentals of basketball. My biggest highlight was in my freshman year when I made the varsity team. Although I was not a starting player, being a part of a varsity team as a freshman made me feel confident as a player.
The 2015-2016 basketball season was a success. I was fortunate enough to be part of a team that won 1st place in the 5A substate division, advancing to state, only to be eliminated in the first round. This was a major accomplishment for our school, as a title had not been claimed in over 12 years. Being eliminated was a huge disappointment but I learned a great deal from that loss. The lesson I learned was that you have to play hard as an individual and play hard as a team at all times, despite the score.
There is room for improvement with my overall skills, with each game I learn to connect different aspects of the game and I use those aspects as I study films, to improve in the next game. Bringing positive energy and support, along with superior academics will be a great addition to a basketball team at the collegiate level. I am looking for a college program that will challenge me to my fullest potential, both academically and athletically.
