Personal Statement

Basketball showed me how successful a team can be when it works as a unit, and that every player has an important role. I’ve made many friends, both on my town team and in my school league. Plus, I’ve met some great AAU players from other towns who have become my close friends. I’ve been gifted with some of the most amazing coaches, dedicated people who never gave up on me and taught me that hard work pays off.

Basketball has also taught me the importance of leadership. I love helping new teammates learn the plays and become more confident in game situations, because I remember when I was the new player, and it can be intimidating. I help coach 4th and 5th grade boys and girls at the elementary school I attended, and I help coach the kindergarten and 1st graders for my town league. I love getting kids involved in the sport, and hope to see their love for basketball blossom as they grow up.

I love basketball because of its fast pace, need for teamwork, and how it brings out good qualities in its players. All of these skills and lessons will serve me both on and off the court. Because of basketball, I’m going into ninth grade as a more confident, happy, and social person.
