I was introduced to basketball in 3rd grade, started playing on travel teams in 5th grade, and by 6th grade realized it was my passion. If there was a game, I was there. I played traveling basketball until I began high school. In 7th grade I was selected to participate in an ambassador program through People to People and attended a leadership conference in Australia; in order to fund my trip I organized a basketball camp for elementary students with my former 6th grade coach. Being able to be around younger kids who wanted to learn the sport I love was energizing. Because of my efforts, 30-kids participated in my camp, I got to help teach others basketball, and I raised close to $250. The trip was a great experience for me; it taught me the value of hard work, organization, and responsibility.
Coaches describe me as a work horse. Although I am short, I am strong and fast on the court. I use my size as an advantage. People look at my height and underestimate me so I work hard to prove my ability. I use my speed to intimidate my opponents. My philosophy is: “it’s not how big you are it’s how big you play.” I am a strong defensive player and am not afraid to go up against bigger players. Not only do I bring my athletic abilities to my team, I also bring a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and leadership. I strive to take correction and insight from my coaches and use it to improve my game.
School is important to me and I work as hard with my education as I do on the basketball court. One of my biggest goals is to play college basketball, and to get a degree in education or athletic training. I am looking for a school where I can receive an excellent education and play the sport that I love. I am very compassionate, a natural caretaker, and enjoy helping others. I am looking for a school where I can continue developing leadership qualities both on and off the court; where I can focus on being a good role model for my peers and an asset to my community. I want to attend a school that fits my educational goals and where I will be a positive impact for a basketball team. My faith is very important to me and while I go to college I want to continue being influenced by solid Christian leaders and coaches.
