Because my mom used to be a high school coach, I have been a gym rat since I was in diapers. Most people would not think I would be the point guard for the team because of my size, however, it is my preferred position because I have always been the point guard since my first game of organized basketball as a young kid. I want the ball in my hands, I want to be the leader on the floor and I want to get all my teammates involved in the game. My ball-handling skills, court awareness and knowledge of the game give me the confidence needed when in pressure situations.
I make it a priority to take my skills to the next level by working with a personal coach, doing strength, agility and speed programs, playing AAU and putting in extra workouts on my own time. Offensively, besides my ability to handle the ball, I can also shoot from the outside as well as drive to the hole or even post up in a miss-match situation. Defensively, I am long making it difficult for my opponent to make good passes. I also know how to force the ball to one side of the floor to create a trapping situation and I hit the boards aggressively.
This past season as a sophomore, I lead my high school team in points scored (312/13 PG), assists (64), steals (66) and minutes played. I was second in rebounding (109), blocks (28) and free throw percentage (68%).
I work hard in the classroom as well maintaining a 3.6 GPA. I serve in several leadership roles including Secretary of our FFA chapter, a member of Jr. Fair Board, horse committee Superintendent and a leader in Fellowship of Christian Students.
In my college search, I am looking for a school that fits my comfort zone academically, athletically and overall campus location and environment. I am excited for the challenge of playing at the next level and will strive my best to be the most successful at it.
