My name is Annick Gilbert and I reside in Timmins, Ontario Canada, which is a Northern rural community situated approximately 700 kilometers north of Toronto, Ontario. My interest in sports dates as far back as childhood, where I always displayed an interest in basketball, cross country running, volleyball and soccer. My passion for sports was influenced by my father who was the Founder and President of Timmins Selects Basketball Club and coached high school and club basketball for over 20 years. I accompanied him to many basketball practices, games and tournament which definitely ignited my love for the sport of basketball. From as early as age 3, I learned to dribble a basketball on the living room hardwood floors and to shoot on any net I could find.
I started playing competitive club basketball at age 9 on a U11 team and have played every year since with the Timmins Selects or Sudbury Jam teams. I've attended numerous summer basketball camps but most proud of being a three time Point Guard College grad. I began strength training 3 years ago with a personal trainer 2-3 times per week. I have played at the highest level of club basketball in the Ontario Basketball League of Excellence (OBLX), competed at five OSDP (Ontario Summer Development Program) including the 2022 Ontario Summer Games in Mississauga, Ontario, as well as participated in the Canada Basketball Centre for Performance Program, all while maintaining straight A's in school.
In the summer of 2023, I was asked to play up a year on the Canada Elite U15 Rise team and played in the girls (UAA) Under Armour Association league attending several tournament in Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Ohio. I recently committed to playing at LoEllen Park Secondary School in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada in the fall of 2023 as a member of the Junior Prep basketball team, part of the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association. Academically, I am registered in the French Immersion Program and was also accepted in the pre-IB (Inernational Baccalaureate) program.
Education has always been very important to me as my mother is a secondary school teacher and has always stressed the importance of working to my highest potential. I am fluent in both French and English languages. My primary areas of interest are languages, mathematics, visual arts and physical education. I would welcome an opportunity to study abroad in order to gain valuable life experience, and play at the highest level of basketball possible. I strongly believe that I possess the potential to become a great player, leader and communicator due to my dedication to the sport and my strong fundamentals.
I welcome an opportunity to further discuss my academic and athletic goals with you and thank you in advance for your consideration.
Respectfully,
Annick Gilbert
