Ever since I was 11 years old I have been playing basketball. I have always loved the game and wanted to do my best and grow in my skills with basketball. I decided that I wanted to play college basketball when I was 13 years old. Collegiate level basketball takes dedication, commitment and hard work both personally and as a team and I will in the work to achieve that. I am a leader on the court, have exceptional handles, a smooth shot and I am coachable. I lead by example on and off the court. In practice and during games, I motivate and encourage my teammates. In February 2023 during the first round of basketball playoffs, I suffered a devastating injury to my knee leading to surgical repair of my ACL and my medial and lateral meniscus. This was a setback that I had to work hard both mentally and physically to overcome. Through much time, dedication and perseverance, in less than 7 months, I recovered from my injury and was ultimately released to play basketball again. The summer of my junior year was not what I was anticipating. I was not able to play in the summer of my junior year as I greatly anticipated with my AAU team, however, I stood by and supported them and once I was able to train, I quickly reconnected with training with my AAU coach. I have learned that setbacks can sometimes be what helps you recognize where your passions are. I know that I am both passionate about basketball, but I am also passionate about college and fulfilling my future dreams and aspirations. I am using my challenges to encourage others and this year as team captain, I am learning more about myself as a player and about my teammate.
When I am not on the court I work hard in both my school work and volunteer work. I am an A student and enjoy working in the community doing philanthropy work in volunteer organizations such as National Charity League and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Whatever I am doing I believe God has given me the ability to do it and I strive to do my best in all that I do and while doing that, I am motivated to encourage and help others. I plan to study psychology in college and minor in biology. I believe what challenges I have faced will also help me as I work with future patients that are going through life challenges.
