I have the opportunity to be from a family who loves basketball! As far back as I can remember, I've played basketball, from the plastic rims in the house, to the court outside! I have two older brothers who played basketball what seemed like every hour of the day! If I wanted to play with them, I had to play ball too... and if I wanted to continue playing, I had to have some 'game'! My dad has always taken every effort to make sure that we had a 'nice' hoop to play on when moving from city to city. Each of my siblings have been given opportunities to attend basketball camps, and play on club and school teams from a very young age through high school. As a family we watch college basketball, the NBA and WNBA... and it really doesn't matter much who it is playing (however, we are huge Maverick fans of the NBA and BYU at the college level). I'll admit, we're a little psycho in that regard!
I tell you all that history to let you know that basketball is in my DNA... I love the game, I love the competition! I've been blessed with great talent/ability and probably haven't worked as hard as I could have in the early years, but since my Sophomore year I have become obsessed with bettering my skills to be the very best that I can be. I currently play on a very talented team at my high school, where there isn't a huge gap in the talent level from one player to another, thus my numbers may not be what they could be in another program. However, the exciting part to that is knowing that as Seniors, we have a real opportunity to win the state title, IF we work hard and lay everything on the line as a TEAM. My dad often tells me about his Senior year, and how awesome an experience it was to win the State Championship, something he'll never forget! I want to have that experience!
(fyi...I also play on an extremely talented Club team, the Salt Lakers! We'll be at the major tournaments in the West this summer of 2012)
My goals after high school are pretty simple...
In conclusion, I'm not the tallest girl on the floor, but I am one of the quickest, and I can do everything! I am known as the 'defensive stopper' on my team, a great passer, and have great handles. But, what I love to do is SHOOT the ball! If I have a weakness (and I'm reminded of it by my coaches daily), it's that I don't shoot enough! I am quick off the dribble and love to catch and shoot the 3! I take pride in the fact that I am a team player, and love to get the ball to my teammates, (yes, admittedly to a fault)! I am a student of the game, and love to learn and play for coaches that enjoy 'teaching' the game of basketball!
I am grateful and hopeful for any consideration or opportunity that I may receive in an effort to fulfill my dream of playing college ball!
Sincerely,
Megan Eliason
