As I think about the question, 'what makes me a good candidate for a team', I think about my passion for teamwork, selflessness and drive for excellence. From my early years as a recreation league basketball player, I heard coaches, family members and people tell me, 'you got it'! That 'it factor'. As a little girl, I did not know what that meant but it felt good. All I knew was, I was playing the entire game, talking to team throughout the games (and practice) and making sure everyone was involved in the game. We won often. Every year, we won the city championships and that continued in middle school. I played hard, started as a six graded and named captain for my final two years of middle school. I continued hearing, 'you got it', 'you're a winner'! After winning the middle school championship two of the three years, I moved on to high school were the experience was a little different. Although we did not win championships, I learned even more about being a leader on and off the court. One of the greatest lessons I learned is that you can still win even if you're not winning championships. I enjoyed leaving it all on the court for my peers to view and follow. I enjoyed listening to my coaches and being a sponge to become a better player and person. Most of all, I absolutely love and appreciate the game of basketball. As a senior preparing to leave high school, I can say that I do believe I've 'got it', what it takes to be a highly effective player and leader at the next level.
