Saria Parker '13 Recruiting Profile

My name is Saria Parker. I live in Virginia Beach, Virginia and I attend Tallwood High School where I will graduate in June 2013. I have an outgoing personality and I’m very creative. I have been involved in several extracurricular activities such as the Student Council Association, the school General Assembly, Peer Mentoring and the city wide Student Exchange Program. I am currently in the top half of my class and based on my current GPA and SAT scores I am qualified to participate in college athletics at the Division I, II, and III level. I began playing basketball at the age of 8 years old in local recreation leagues in the city of Virginia Beach and became good enough to become a starter on my middle school team in the 6th grade. Additionally, I was able to play on the high school Future and Summer League teams immediately following my 6th grade year. My middle school team did really well and during my 8th grade year we missed the city championship game by one game. Thus far in high school I’ve lettered 3 years in Varsity Basketball and my team has qualified for the district play-offs all 3 years, twice we have qualified for the region tournament. Last season I became a full time starter and led my team in scoring including a career high of 23 points in one of our wins. I also led my team in steals and played point guard, shooting guard, and small forward. I’ve played for two different AAU teams- the Virginia Lady Miracles and the Boo Williams Norfolk Express and in 2011 my team won the Division II State Championship in Virginia and qualified for the national tournament in Florida. In 2012 we finished in second place in the state. I participated in various camps and showcase tournaments over the last two summers and performed really well. Coaches have commented on my confidence, poise, and versatility. I would like to attend a college or university that will offer me the opportunity to become a well rounded student athlete and assist me in pursuing my goal of earning a Bachelor’s degree. I’m also determined to become a big part of a woman’s basketball program and I’m willing to work as hard as it takes to be successful at both. My parents Byron and Valerie Parker have influenced me to always pursue my goals and dreams and I will continue to do so throughout my college experience.
