Personal Statement
I have always loved basketball since first playing in the local YMCA leagues, at Hoopfest in Spokane, Washington, and eventually abroad in Nara, Japan in elementary school. I am a competitor at heart and love the comradery of team sports. The past two years I have been awarded a few sportsmanship awards at both local and state tournaments.
Japanese style basketball taught me strong ball handling skills, and good timing which are essential to steals, rebounds, and blocked shots for a small forward like myself. I find it very satisfying playing intense defense and contributing to my team’s success.
Academically, I have a unique educational experience attending an International Christian School in Japan for four years where my father was principal. Living abroad, I was introduced to Japanese language, culture, and history, as well as other parts of Asia where I learned to appreciate and embrace cultural diversity. Stateside in the classroom, I enjoy art, AP history, and yearbook where I have studied hard and maintain a high GPA.
I would like to attend a college where I may play both basketball and high jump as well. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition that will both develop my athletic potential and help me discover my future career.
