Personal Statement
Beach Volleyball has played a monumental role in my life since I switched over from court (5 yrs) to year-round beach(2 yrs). As a young child, I was always quiet and reserved, but the moment I set foot on a beach volleyball court, that changed. This accepting, moral-boosting, supportive sport has completely shifted me from a girl without a voice on the court to one that helps others to find theirs. For this reason and many more, it has been a goal of mine to continue to play the sport that I so enjoy throughout college.
Not only has volleyball molded me as a person, but academics play a pivotal role in my college route. I have always loved school, but upon reaching college level maths and sciences, I have realized that I would like to major in Mathematics, Engineering, or any type of Medicine. My ideal school would allow me to play volleyball of course, but a rigorous and enticing academic life is a must for me. It is also important for me to add that I am open to considering a parochial school as I was raised Catholic, but I would like to play at the D3 level or higher. I am part of many honors societies at my school, from NHS to Math Honors Society to Spanish Honors Society, where I am conversationally fluent.
As for extracurriculars, I love to, coincidentally, spend time at the beach, especially surfing, which is one of the most fun hobbies that I have picked up on from being a Florida girl on the coast. Traveling is also another aspect of life that I most enjoy, and in fact, this summer I have been given the opportunity to travel to Cuba, and I am ecstatic to be able to finally see the land of my heritage with my family. In Spring Break 2020 I will be attending a school sanctioned trip to Paris and Rome, run by my AP Classical Studies Teacher. I greatly look forward to broadening my horizons on these trips, as I also hope to do during my college experience.
