Vivian Hao '22 Recruiting Profile

I started diving at the age of 9 with no gymnastics experience so I started later than most other divers. At the club I started at, I spent two years there putting in a lot of time and trying to get better and learn new dives, but the coaches didn't push me and I didn't learn much during the two years I spent there. That's why I left the team, to look for a better opportunity for me where I will be taught new things rather than doing the same things over and over again. After taking a year off in search of a new team to join, my family and I decided that I would join Trojan Dive Club. I started off in the novice team but in six months, I was moved up to the Junior Olympics team. I've spent the last four years there and learned so much more there than I could have ever imagined before. I never expected myself doing more difficult dives but now I am doing them with ease and ready to learn even more. Freshman year, through my persistence, I was able to dive in CIF competitions representing my school. I was the first diver the school has ever had and if I never worked towards competing, I probably would not have and would never have been able to represent my school in an event in which they never had someone compete in for. 

Although I am not the best diver, I am willing to put in the time and effort to make myself better and more prepared to learn new dives. I've been diving consecutively for a while now and although it takes up a lot of time and sometimes it gets tough and scary, I love the feeling of going through the air and entering the water and would never give up diving to have more free time. Through diving and academically, I am always pushing myself to do my best which is why I am taking IB classes junior year and training every single day at home. No matter how scared I am to do something, I will stop at nothing to do it. I have a strong passion for diving and going to school somewhere where they push me in the classroom and in the pool is my ultimate goal.
