Hello, my name is Marnie Howard. In the fall I will be a senior at Normal Community West High School. For as long as I can remember, gymnastics has always been my passion. It was and will always be a big part of my life. Gymnastics helped shape me into the type of athlete and person that I am today. It has taught me mental toughness, perseverance, leadership and teamwork.
I began diving the summer of 2019 after I decided it was best to retire from gymnastics due to an ankle injury. In a few short months of training, I fell in love with the sport. Before I knew it I started my freshman year of diving where I broke the 11 dive record with a 383.00. But I didn’t stop there. My sophomore year I broke the 14 year old 6-dive record with a 272.45. Then broke my 11-dive record with a 458.60. I was the Sectional Champion and qualified for State where I finished 7th. Going into my junior year I knew it was going to be hard to beat my previous scores. But, with hard work and determination I achieved my goal by breaking my 6-dive record with a 276.95 as well as my 11-dive with a 518.30. To end my season, I was the Sectional Champion and qualified for State where I finished 5th.
Not only do I excel in the pool, but I also excel in the classroom. Currently, I have a 5.2 GPA out of 5.0, and have been inducted into the National English Honors Society (NEHS). I was also hand picked from over 100 applicants to be a part of the Freshman Mentoring Program at my high school where I help freshmen in their first year of high school. I also volunteer in youth and junior high ministries at my church. Overall, I am a well-rounded person, a hard worker and can’t wait to see what my future holds.
