My name is Alexa Kalish, and I am a USA/AAU competitive diver. Before my career in diving, I was a successful competitive gymnast for four years. Once my time was coming to a close in that sport, diving felt like an appropriate next step on my athletic path. Given my air-awareness, attention to technique, and quick ability to learn, I have thrived within the diving community for two years and counting. Diving not only provides me with the exhilarating feeling of weightlessness as I flip through the air but also encourages me to constantly seek higher goals. It has shaped me into the person I am today.
If I were to be described in three words, they would be “persistent”, “passionate”, and “affable”. These unique qualities apply to me both in and out of the pool. As a rising Junior with a 4.0 GPA at Brookline High School while taking all Honors and Advanced classes, the mix of coursework and practices can be demanding at times. However, I am not one to back down from a challenge and always push myself to perform to my peak. In all aspects of my life, I make sure to invest time in fostering relationships, whether developing a respectful relationship with a coach, cheering on a teammate, or helping a classmate. When I am not in class or at the pool, I can be found playing viola in my school’s orchestra, mentoring two all-girls Lego Robotics teams, volunteering for the Spaulding Adaptive Sports sled hockey program, or at a variety of clubs.
As an aspiring collegiate diver aiming towards a career in medicine, I seek a selective college team in which I can contribute to the group camaraderie while we support each other through rigorous courses and practices. Thank you for your consideration.
