2024 Spotlight #2
2024 SpotlightMy mom forced me to go to my first dive team practice the summer before my freshman year. Injuries had forced me to leave acrobatics after 10+ years and I thought I would never love another sport like that again. I was wrong.
I loved dive from the first time I went off the board and the summer coach jumped up and down cheering. But it is so much more than a “replacement” sport. Diving Club and High School has taught me to trust myself, push myself, take risks, cheer for my teammates, and have fun with them, too. I’ve achieved so much - qualified and competed in NJ States for HS and USA Diving Junior Nationals for Club in my first year - and have been rewarded in so many ways.
With each dive I learn, I am only hungry to reach the next one. I love the camaraderie and excitement of dive—isn’t it fun to see a whole pool of spectators cheer for a diver not only when they completely nail a dive but also just as loudly for that next dive after a smack? Dive is a family in so many ways and I hope to continue to build on my skills and feed my passion for dive on a team in college.
The ONLY drawback to loving dive has been that I had to tell my mom...she was right.
