For as long as I can remember, I have always been drawn to the water. I swam competitively for 5 years and then, after attending a weekend diving camp at Columbia University, I became interested in springboard diving, which has been my passion for the past 6 years. For 5 years, I was a member of the New York Dive Club at Fordham University, which allowed me the opportunity to train in Shanghai for 3 years, and then switched to Whirlwind Diving Club in New Canaan, Connecticut with the goal of maximizing my diving potential. Joining a new team during the pandemic has been challenging but has proven to me that I am a caring, supportive, and motivating teammate who works well with other divers and coaches. Competitive diving competitions have made me more persistent because I have learned to get back up when a dive does not work out the way I planned, also an important skill outside of the pool. I love being able to motivate my teammates and being pushed by my teammates to be the best athlete I can be. Out of the pool, I am very engaged in my school work at Riverdale Country School, and especially enjoy taking two languages (Mandarin and Spanish); I participate in several school clubs, and I play on my varsity softball team. I am also very passionate about social justice issues and have a budding interest in psychology. I would welcome the opportunity to go to a school that allows me to continue diving while also offering me a space to continue to pursue my academic passions, while continuing to develop persistence, gratitude and good citizenship.
