Personal Statement
My name is Margaret “Maggie” Lambdin. I started diving in August of 2018 after 6 years as a competitive gymnast. I am a member of the Longhorn Aquatics Diving Team in Austin, Texas under coaches Jim Zagaria and Mike Beran. In my first year of diving, I qualified for the 2019 USA Diving Zone B Championships. Like many other athletes, my competition season was cut short in 2020 by the Covid-19 pandemic. Competition for me began again in May 2021 at the 2021 USA Diving Junior Region 4 Championships where I qualified for the 2021 USA Diving Zone B Championships in June. I enjoy all 3 diving events, including the 10 m platform. I plan to continue to learn and improve in the sport of diving, with hopes of competing at the highest levels. I am especially excited about the possibility of competing in college. I look forward to the opportunity to represent my school, competing as a team to beat the competition.
I attend Veritas Academy in Austin, Texas which is a classical, Christian, university model school. I will graduate in May 2023. Veritas Academy does not have a diving team. Despite a rigorous academic curriculum, I have excelled academically, receiving multiple academic achievement awards awarded only to a few students each year. My course load has been challenging and includes almost every AP course that my school offers. As a senior, I will be completing, delivering, and defending a Senior Thesis. In addition to diving and school, I am committed to volunteering and serving my community. I have been a member of the same Girl Scout Troop for 9 years and am hoping to complete by Gold Award before I graduate from high school.
I hope to attend a challenging university where I can excel both academically and athletically. Although I do not know exactly what I would like to major in, I am interested in international studies, linguistics, and math.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, hiking, camping, cooking / baking, and skiing (water and snow).
