Determination, grit, and perseverance are words that have been used to describe my character. These traits are a result of challenges placed in front of me. Growing up in a very small community, I had to travel 50 minutes one way in order to attend competitive gymnastics practices. I love the sport and climbed through the levels. My high school does not have a gymnastics team, but did have a diving board. I took to diving quickly and qualified for State competition my freshman year. At the end of my freshman year, they found a crack in our board which resulted in it being removed and not replaced. This meant that we had to find a board for me to practice on. We travel up to 1 1/2 hours one way in order to get practice in. I average two practices per week during the season. This 2020 season has been even more difficult to find a board and my dive coach attends practices via Zoom. I know that I have so much more potential. Having consistent practice time, coaching, and training equipment would propel my diving to the next level. All of these obstacles have been opportunities for me to learn and grow as a person and teammate. I am a team player. It is also very important for me to find a college that also has a high standard on academic achievement. My work ethic, emphasis on team, enthusiasm for the sport, and willingness to learn make me a great candidate for any team.
