I began playing golf the summer before my freshman year of high school. I have been playing sports my whole life, everything from volleyball to football, but most of them I did not intend on playing past the middle school club level. I chose to narrow my seasons to basketball and volleyball, but still wanted a sport to fill my time in the spring. My dad is a golfer and he had been trying to get me to try for a while, so I figured it couldn’t hurt. Now I am hooked and it has become my athletic focus.
Getting to the game so late, I had some catching up to do. Learning to feel natural in my swing took a long time and I am still working at it. Golf truly solidifies the idea that you can never stop trying to improve. My determination and competitiveness that have only grown from playing golf, coupled with patience and confidence, have carried me through life and school. Moving forward I hope these skills will lead me to a successful finale in my high school career and a bright collegiate career athletically and academically. More specifically, I hope to finish high school with a 4.0 GPA and be in the running for Valedictorian before getting a degree in biochemistry or genetic engineering with the goal of studying and developing allergy treatments.
