My name is Cala Korman and I am a competitive golfer who lives in a small community in southwestern Manitoba, Canada. I am a grade 11 student, who excels in all subjects, but I particularly enjoy band and visual arts. I have a background participating in team sports such as: volleyball, basketball, and figure-skating. In my small town, I grew up near the golf course and that allowed me to begin playing at an early age. Because of my upbringing, my experiences in competitive sport and my schooling, I have grown to be hard-working, resilient, committed, and focused.
My golf aspirations started at the age of ten, when I was chosen to participate in my first provincial summer games in 2016. It was here that for the first time, I was exposed to girls playing golf at a competitive level. It was also the first time I met my current golf coach. The last few years, I have participated in several junior and amateur events. My ultimate goal is to use education to further my development in golf. Through the years, I have learned the responsibility, initiative, leadership and commitment needed not just for my own personal growth but the growth needed to be an active part of a team. These are the skills I want to take to my college career as I pursue my dream of playing professional golf. My success to date, stems from the support I receive from family, my home Golf and Country Club, and the community where I live. Every year my parents sacrifice countless hours driving to various events to support my dreams. Their encouragement and dedication inspire me to achieve. The caring and loving support of my family has led to my early success in golf and everything else
