Kayla Pleiness '23 Recruiting Profile

Hello!! My name is Kayla Pleiness from Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I began playing golf a couple weeks before my Sophomore year tryouts (August 2020).  I love it!  Due to my inexperience, I was placed on the JV team.  Each week I was in the spot 1 or 3.   Toward the end of the season I was asked to play with the Varsity team twice!  I have drive and a passion for golf. I like to play the course prior to a match in order to plan and strategize for the match.   I'm now taking my golf clubs whenever we travel to experience more courses and practice whenever I can.  Working with my swing coach, I focus on what I need to improve on to get to the next level and how I need to work on my mental skills in order to improve as well. My coaches have told me over the years that I am a very coach-able person and whenever they think I should change something, I do it. Another thing I would like to include is that I feel I am a leader for my teammates and new players. I lead  by encouraging them to keep playing whether they are struggling or having a good game, because the match isn't over yet. 

At the same time, I am very passionate about my academic career. I take great pride in my work and always put my best work forward. I strive to always get straight A's and I always put my academics above my athletics. I push myself with my academics to the next level with all I do. I continue to pursue opportunities for honors classes and AP classes each year.  I also hope as opportunities present themselves after COVID restrictions are lifted to join additional clubs and other extracurricular activities. I enjoy helping others if they are confused on any work and I will answer any questions they may have and at the same time I always ask questions if I am confused about grades or any assignments.
