My name is Cate Leydig. I am a Montana resident currently attending Junior Players Golf Academy (JPGA) and Hilton Head Preparatory School on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. As a junior with a weighted GPA of 5.22 (4.0 unweighted), I am on the Trustee Honor Roll at Prep, which is their highest academic designation.
This is my first year attending JPGA, a decision driven by the desire for a longer golf season than I am afforded in Montana. Before moving to Hilton Head, I was the top-ranked varsity golf player at Lone Peak High School in Big Sky, Montana. During freshman year, I won the 2023 Montana High School Class C State Championship, where our team came in second by one stroke. Sophomore year I was runner-up in the 2024 Montana High School Class B State Championship; our team won this tournament by 16 strokes. I earned 1st Team All-Conference and All-State honors for golf freshman and sophomore years. Having started lessons at age 5, I’ve found success competing in local tournaments including those hosted by Montana State Golf Association and Rocky Mountain Section PGA. In 2023 I won the MSGA State Championship for my division. Since arriving in Hilton Head, I‘ve competed on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. I placed second at the 2024 HJGT Hilton Head Labor Day Junior Open and took third place at the 2024 HJGT Hilton Head Junior Classic. My 18-hole average is currently 81, and my tournament scoring average is 82. In addition to playing golf, I was a varsity soccer player at Lone Peak High School and made the Montana State Olympic Development Pool for 2022-23. I also competed as an IFSA Freeride skier until 2024, with podium finishes at both regional and national events. While passionate about athletics, I consider my academics equally important. Having transferred from an IB high school in Big Sky where I was top ranked academically, I am now pursuing an AP Capstone diploma at Hilton Head Preparatory School. At Prep, I am a member of the Interact Club and National Honors Society. Last year, I competed in the American Legion Oratorical Contest, advancing to the state competition where I came in second place. While in Big Sky, I also participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters, Student Council, and Mock Trial. During sophomore year I completed extra coursework through Global Online Academy, identifying a love for International Relations. I am highly competitive and disciplined, with a strong work ethic and a team-first mentality, making me a good candidate for any school.
