I have been captivated by golf from the age of eight. Since then, I have never been able to imagine life without it. My dad has always told me: “You can’t let a day go by without golf”. Though I didn’t take it seriously at the time, it has become a constant reminder through the years to do something everyday, no matter how modest, to better my golf game.
My practice philosophy is simple: quality over quantity. To me, a good practice session is not dictated by how many balls you hit or how long you spend hitting balls, it is about how much effort you are willing to put into every swing. In my case this means taking time to think after every shot and reflect on what I did well, what needs improvement, and how those improvements can be made. This philosophy ensures that I will continue to learn from both my good and bad shots, and I will always have the capacity to grow.
I have been playing golf for over half of my life, so golf has clearly had an enormous impact on who I am today. One thing I have learned about myself though golf is that I have an aggressive and audacious side. I have always been considered a shy person who takes the conservative route, but when I am on the golf course, I take aggressive lines (over bunkers, through narrow tree gaps) and commit to my shot. I take this element of my game off the course, as well, by making an effort to approach people with more confidence. Golf has helped me become a more assertive person and has helped me discover a part of myself that I didn’t realize was there.
I am excited to continue playing competitive golf in college and further improve my game. I love the competitive atmosphere of tournaments, and I have an undeniable passion for the game. I look forward to learning more about myself through playing college golf. I am most excited to meet new people from across the country and around the world who love golf as much as I do and I am looking forward to share our love of golf together as a team.
