My name is Sophia Latham, and I am currently a senior at Trinity Christian Academy in Dallas, TX. I have had the privilege of playing Varsity Golf for the past three years, during which I have qualified for the State level each year. In my Freshman and Sophomore years, I placed in the top 10 (6th and 9th) and in my Junior year, I played a key role in helping my team secure 3rd place in the State.
My journey with golf began when I was 9 years old after trying various sports throughout my childhood. Golf quickly became my passion, and I fell in love with the game from the moment I first picked up a club. My first tournament score was over 100, but this initial challenge only motivated me to improve. In my second tournament, I broke 90, and shortly thereafter, I broke 80. I was hooked for life! My goal has always been to consistently play in the low 70s.
Over the years, I have participated in numerous tournaments, including many North Texas Junior PGA Tour events, where I have frequently placed in the top three. I have also competed in All-American tournaments. One of the highlights of my golf journey was qualifying for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship, where I had the incredible experience of playing at a beautiful Doral course in Miami and placed 17th out of over 300 participants (80-78-73)
Balancing my academic and athletic commitments has been a significant aspect of my high school experience. Trinity Christian Academy is a college preparatory and academically rigorous school, and I am proud to be a student there. Achieving 4.2 GPA during my Junior year and maintaining my golf game hasn’t been easy, but I did it, bringing my overall GPA to 3.8. I’m a member of the National Society of High School Scholars.
Unfortunately, I lost my swing coach when he moved to North Carolina two years ago, which has made it challenging to have consistent coaching. Despite this, I have remained dedicated to refining my skills and staying competitive. I practice with my team twice a week and on my own almost every day, and I play 9-18 holes at my home course of Clubs of Prestonwood a few times a week.
I am eager to continue my golfing journey at the collegiate level and contribute to your team’s success. I am dedicated, hardworking, and passionate about the game, and I believe I have the skills and determination to excel in your program. I am also committed to maintaining a strong academic record, as I believe in the importance of balancing both scholastic and athletic pursuits.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the possibility of discussing how I can be a valuable addition to your team.
