Firstly, thank you for considering my profile!!! Golf has been my top priority for the last few years. I can be a solid asset to a team because of my strong work ethic, discipline, and willingness to improve. I have the right skills to work together with teammates and coaches to improve the team's overall performance.
My name is Phoebe Tamez, and I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. When I was two years old, my mom and I moved to Texas. My parents divorced right before I turned four years old, and life was about to teach me a few lessons: Long story short, I dealt with a speech impediment as a young child, I was held back in the second grade, and if that wasn't enough, later on (3rd grade), I found out I had dyslexia. Then in 6h grade, I found out I had scoliosis and had to be braced for two long years. Those lessons helped me develop a thicker skin, and not to be a victim of what happens to me.
God had a plan; through those unpleasant experiences, we made several trips to the hospital where I saw other kids in much worse shape; some had no legs, no arms, in wheelchairs, interesting body shapes, etc... I also noticed that many of them were happy regardless of their disability. I shifted my mind, and I started focusing on the great things in my life, like my family and supportive friends.
Through Scottish Rite Hospital, I attended their sponsored golf clinics, and long story short, I fell in love with the sport. I practiced golf with my dad Kevin, with my coaches, with my friends, by myself, and when my freshman year came around, I was blessed to make the Varsity golf team.
Currently, I'm an Honor roll student with a 4.52 GPA (on a 5.0 scale) while taking advanced courses (some college credits). My unpleasant experience with scoliosis opened the doors to golf, a sport I now genuinely enjoy playing. I love the outdoors and the mental challenge that comes with the sport. I've devoted and will continue to put in many hours out in the course. I've always been competitive, and I understand improvement is needed but the more I practice, the more training I get, the better I will become. And God willing, that's my plan! My momma didn't quit on me, and I'm not about to quit pursuing my goal of playing college golf and hopefully becoming an architect one day.
Thank you for your time
