My name is Jodi Keener and I am currently a junior at Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas. I have a passion for golf and a general love for outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, hiking, target shooting and travel. I am currently a member of the girls varsity golf team. I also have a passion for animals and have a desire to work in the fields of agriculture and business. I am an active member, animal raiser and volunteer in my school’s FFA (Future Farmers of America) club. I have raised meat rabbit kits and am currently raising a pig. I also study German and am an active member of my high school German Club. I enjoy participating in statewide German competitions and have won two awards for performing skits in German.
I started playing golf when I was 12 years old as my parents and my grandmother are all active golfers. I love the competitiveness and challenges of golf, but I also love the fact that golf is an outdoor sport. Each and every course is different and challenging in its own way which is exciting to me. I have played on my high school golf team since my freshman year and I have worked extremely hard to improve my game and earn a spot on the varsity team. I have taken private lessons and I take every opportunity I can to play regularly at my local club. I am a good team player and have bonded really well with the rest of my teammates. My goal this year is to be one of the most consistent and top ranked players on my varsity team.
My friends and family have described me as fun, active, hard-working, and smart. I am dyslexic and learned early on that hard work was the only way I would be successful in school. I have to study and work hard to maintain my GPA and my teachers have often commented that I am the hardest working student in their class. I also had to learn how to be patient as new concepts don’t always come as easily to me as they would to others. This is a skillset that has helped me tremendously for golf as I am extremely patient and don’t give up easily. I’ll work hard until I achieve the goals I have set for myself.
My goal this year is to be accepted to a college where I can contribute my skillsets and participate on a college golf team. I am working hard to improve my game by participating in Summer tournament leagues and taking extra lessons so I can play competitively. I am excited about the idea of playing college golf and working hard together as a team while also working hard to earn my degree.
