Whenever anyone asks what do you want to do when you grow up, my answer is always the same, I want to be a gymnast. First it was just to do gymnastics, then I wanted to be a competitive gymnast, then a level 10 gymnast, then I wanted to compete with a number on my back in one of the big competitions and finally, my ultimate goal is now to become a NCAA gymnast. Some things that set me apart from others is that I am determined, passionate and strong willed. I have been told by coaches that I have worked with that I am very coachable. I have always known that gymnastics is my passion, and I am willing to work as hard as I can to reach my goals and be the best gymnast that I can be.
I know that a big part of gymnastics is never giving up. I know hard work has to be put in to get the skills I want and I am willing to do it. I also know that failure leads to success when you don't give up. When I was younger, I consistently earned the "One Tough Cookie" award at the end of year parties from my coaches for always getting back up and trying again when things didn't quite go the way I wanted them to. I also earned the nickname "Splat ball" for continuously getting right back up and trying again.
I try very hard to be a good leader in my gym. I was the first gymnast at my gym to go from preteam all the way through to level 10. I started training there shortly after the gym opened. I was the first athlete to win a Regional Championship title, which I did as a level 9 on both Beam and Vault and then went on to earn medals on both those events at Westerns as well. I would love to lead the way for my fellow teammates and be the first one to make it on an NCAA team as well!
I love to work with the younger athletes in the gym when I can and share encouragement and stories and remind them how far they have come and help keep them motivated to keep going. One thing I really look forward to though is being on a team and competing as a team at each competition. There have been many competitions since I was a level 5 where I was the only athlete from my gym at that level or in that session. I can't wait to be with a group of girls who are all working towards a team goal and encouraging each other and cheering for each other throughout the meets. I look forward to all that positive team energy!
