My name is Sophia Dunn, and my goal is to major in biochemistry in college and compete at the division one gymnastics level. I hope to pursue a career as an aesthetic dermatologist after completing my schooling.
I am a floor and vault specialist, and I am hardworking, driven, intelligent, and persistent. I worked extremely hard to be able to compete as a level 9 gymnast last season after being in a car accident that resulted in a severe concussion and traumatic brain damage, the effects of which I am still recovering from. Despite this setback, I am determined to compete my first season of level 10 this year and continue my gymnastics training in preparation for competing at the college level. Since I was a little girl, it has always been my dream to become an NCAA gymnast, and I will stop at nothing to achieve that dream.
In addition to being a competitive gymnast, I am also a gifted artist and student. I competed in three Junior VASE art competitions in middle school and competed in my first high school level VASE competition earlier this year. In all four competitions, I received a perfect score on my artwork, and I received a Platinum Honor Award for a piece that I entered in my 7th grade Junior VASE competition. In addition, one of my art pieces was exhibited in Austin as a part of the TAEA Student Art Month Exhibit. My artwork was one of only 100 pieces chosen, and I was featured in the South Denton Living magazine due to this achievement. I am very passionate about art, and I hope that my talents will aid me in getting scholarships.
I am also very strong academically. I am going into my sophomore year of high school this year, and my current weighted GPA is about a 4.44. I have been enrolled in all honors classes since the sixth grade, and I am in all honors, AP, and Dual Credit classes in high school as well. In addition to my grades, my test scores are also quite high; I scored in the 99th percentile on the PSAT 8/9 test, and I am currently studying for the PSAT test that I will take in my junior year. I fully intend to score in the top 1% for the state of Texas and go on to become a National Merit Scholar, as this will help me to get scholarships.
In conclusion, I take both my gymnastics and academic careers very seriously, and I am 100% committed to making it to the college level. I know I have a very big dream, but I have a plan to get there, and I intend to follow through, no matter how challenging it may be. I am the type of person who grabs onto her goals with both hands, and I’ve made a promise to myself that I won’t ever let go of this goal.
