Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Su-An Cho, and I play for the U16 Team Illinois as a 2022 defense man. I first played ice hockey for fun with my brother, but as I got older, I found a passion for playing competitive hockey against girls all around North America. Therefore, I started travel hockey in St. Louis while staying at home as an out of town player. There were many obstacles regarding the decision I made, such as the constant traveling and the motivation to keep working, but it has greatly influenced me in small ways to even enjoy these tough times.
My goal would be to play Division 1 hockey, but I also leave a lot of options for other divisions. As much as I would love to play D1, I find academics a much more important aspect and would love a school that can offer an opportunity for me to play high competitive hockey and great education. As I keep working, I hope to strive further not only as a hockey player, but as a person. I see myself as a good candidate due to my work ethic, constant communication, and humbleness to get along with my team. My strongest point on the ice is the ability to create opportunities and time for the team using my skating and stick handling skills to escape pressure and pass the puck/skate the puck.
My usual week consists of 2-3 lifts and 3-5 ice practices and I have been able to keep a consistent grade average of a 4.22 GPA out of 4. I have joined the Cross Country club for my high school freshmen year, and have been a member of the National Junior Honor Society for both of my middle school years and joined the National Honor Society for my junior year since it was unavailable for freshmen. In addition, I enjoyed volunteering for a food drive many times to help distribute food and clean to help out with the small community and have learned many things from the people who helped and supported me in this journey. I don't exactly have a major I want to work with, but I do love topics that concern psychology or sociology.
I definitely plan to consider colleges that can offer me an opportunity to keep playing hockey and great education for the future but am still open to many other vast options out there. I hope find the right school that can push me both on and off the ice to make myself better as a player and person.
Thank you for your time to getting to know me!
