I am a left-handed defensemen expected to graduate in 2025. Being a defensemen, I believe that I use my hockey IQ to support good plays and create opportunities for my teammates and I to build off of. Additionally, I read the ice well and get my head up to move the puck faster. I am also a strong body, so I use that to my advantage to win battles and create pins in tight situations. My playing style is a more “stay at home” defense that protects the net well, and I’m hard on pucks to win battles.
Some goals that I set for myself this season was to expand my view of the ice, make better reads, and improve on walking the blue line and finding open lanes. I achieved this by scanning the ice quicker, moving my feet with my head up, and understanding the InStats of myself and my team to determine what went well and what could be improved. This helps create a sense of trust in myself to get my head up and see what the smartest option moving forward is on the ice.
I’m the type of person that appreciates direct feedback from the coaches when I need to make improvements or adjustments. On the other hand, I appreciate a little recognition when I have good shift, a little tap on the back goes a long way for me.
After graduation, I’m interested in majoring in physiotherapy and kinesiology with the long-term goal of having a career within that profession or ideally becoming an athletic therapist for a hockey team. I attribute a big part of my past successes to being part of a large and supportive family, so finding a school or team that portrays a tight family bond is important to me, as I believe it will help me continue to develop and succeed. I also strongly value friendships, so I prioritize developing relationships with the people around me, as I believe that’s a very important part of forming an effective team.
