Personal Statement

Hi there, how are you? My name is Kaedence  Mollin, I am 17 years old and I currently play hockey for the Thompson Okanagan Lakers in the female U18AAA elite hockey league. I live in Kelowna BC and I am in grade 12 at Kelowna Senior Secondary School in the french immersion program. I will be graduating in 2022 and I am eagerly looking at universities and colleges, that offer high-level hockey. I am extremely interested in potentially being a part of your hockey team and would be honoured if you would like to have a look at a video I have put together highlighting some of the hockey skills I have to offer. According to BC Hockey U18FAAA stats, I am up at the top for defence in my league.

I am an intense and aggressive left defenceman who enjoys rushing the puck up the ice and joining in on offensive play while also being very strong in front of my own net. I have been skating since I was three years old and can describe my skating as smooth, powerful and fast. My agility is top-notch and my stamina is everlasting. I am consistent and have a great game sense with the ability to make quick decisions in small spaces. I am on both the power play and penalty kill for my present team. I love the game and strive to learn more through great coaching and experienced teammates. I excel with discipline and I am mentally and physically ready to continue to work hard. My tough play in front of the net and quick transitions help me to stand out in a group. I consider myself a team leader by being very positive however I do know when it’s time to crack the whip so to speak. I consider myself to be very coachable and attentive.

On the academics level, I have maintained straight A’s most of my life and love school. I am currently on the principles honours list for work ethic and GPA. I strive for the highest of standards possible. I have been a French Immersion student since kindergarten. I have taken on an interest in the medical field as both my parents work at the hospital here in Kelowna. My father is a charge nurse in the intensive care unit and my mother is a cardiac sonographer. I hope to be a nurse one day, working on the front lines to help save lives and make our world a safer place to live in. There is nothing more I would rather do than play hockey and attend nursing school.

I believe that I can be an asset to your team and would love the opportunity to prove it. Our midget team was recently in Brampton at the two nations cup where we didn’t place top three but came out with two wins, one loss and one tie. I racked up four points (1 goal and 3 assists) in four games. I  presently have six points (six assists) in 13 games in our league standings.

Unfortunately, due to the flooding and roads being washed out we have had to cancel the last few weekends of league games in Vancouver. We hope this won’t last long but I have been training with fierce off ice daily workouts which include serious weightlifting, high speed runs and plyometric exercises. I am a dual sport athlete who has also played soccer all my life. Being a striker in soccer has taught me a lot about the offensive aspect of the game as I was a striker which I have transferred quite readily into my hockey play. I eat, sleep and breathe hockey. There is no better feeling than skating fast out on the ice and exerting oneself with a bunch of like-minded women to achieve a common goal. Hockey satisfies me. I love every part of the game. I want to play at an elite level, be the best team player I can be and strive for greatness.

I would describe myself as outgoing, spontaneous, humorous, approachable and open-minded. I am hard-working, dedicated, determined, confident, passionate and caring. It would truly be a dream come true to be even considered a member of your prestigious hockey program. I promise I would not let you down. I am hard on myself as I am a perfectionist and I consider this a good characteristic to possess. I would love the chance to talk with you and tell you what I am all about.
