My motto: Do what others are not and if you put in hard work, it will pay off in the future. Both of these apply to school and sport.
I come from a family of hockey players, and I understand what work is required to play at the College level. My uncle (Mike Evans) played at University of Massachusetts Amherst, my cousin (Ryker Evans) was drafted by the Seattle Kraken and plays in the AHL for the Coachella Valley Firebirds. My other cousin (Payten Evans) is a freshman playing for the Merrimack College Women's Hockey team. These family connections have given me role models to look up to and consult on the process they took to get where they have gotten to.
My skating and physical strength are two of my main assets as a hockey player and defenseman. I have put in a lot of work to become the best skater I can be. I am a two-way defenseman and can grind it out in the corners and win battles. I can hold the line and be a reliable d-man, I have confidence to join the rush and become a scoring asset as well. I have always been one of the fastest skaters on any team I have played on. I started hockey playing in the boys stream up to Peewee AA before transitioning to female hockey. I am proud to have won the faster skater on boy's teams I have been on.
My bantam AA team in 2021/22 won our Provincial championships (Olds Grizzlies). I was an assistant captain on that team, and I helped anchor the team on both penalty kill and powerplay. This was a growth year for me. I learned from my coaches on how to hold myself accountable and be a dependable player.
When COVID hit, I was fortunate enough to attend the Edge Academy in Calgary, where I was able to continue working on my hockey skills and development with an amazing coach Carla McLeod. The hockey did not shut down as the hockey program was part of our school program and cohort base.
I am fortunate that my parents were willing to relocate to Kelowna in-order to give me the opportunity to play for the Okanagan Hockey Academy. My childhood dream was to play hockey in Kelowna, and I feel fortunate to be able to realize this.
I have strong character; I am honest reliable. I am always on-time and I pride myself in being a team player.
My Mom and Dad run their own business. They have instilled in me, how important education is, and how it opened the doors for them to realize their dreams both personally and professionally.
I hope to be fortunate enough to combine my pursuit of higher education with my passion for hockey. I dream of owning and running my own business in the future.
For the 2022/23 season I won the defenseman of the year award for my team.
