Personal Statement
Dear Coaches,
My name is Kayla Kutes. I was born in Atlanta, GA, and grew up in Seattle, WA. I am currently a junior at George Elliot Secondary school and I play for the Female Prep U18 Rink-Kelowna Hockey Academy team. I have maintained a 3.8+ GPA and aspire to further improve it throughout high school while taking academically challenging courses and continue participating in many community stewardships. I enjoy volunteering at hockey summer camps such as Ex-NHL Jamie Huscroft’s “Get Ready Camp” as a junior instructor.
I played on the Seattle Junior Thunderbirds boys select teams in Washington state. In addition to playing on the Thunderbirds boys’ team, I partially double rostered with the Washington Wilds U14 girls team and attended their elite camps, including camp of US Olympic medalist, Lyndsey Fry. I also played at Rush Hockey Toronto female showcase and the Beantown classic female tournament. I have attended the West Coast Prep Camp showcase/summer camp for girls and boys. I've worked with Ex-NHL players Jamie Huscroft and Turner Stevenson and National Hockey League linesmen, Vaughan Rody. My commitment and following on advice of the camps and coaches drives my ongoing rapid growth of skills, speed, and strength.
On any team I have played for, I have played competitively, with positivity and leadership. My coaches have described me as hard-working, determined, well mannered, prompted, and respectful towards teammates and coaches; they also called me “exceptionally coachable” and “a fun spirit on and off the ice”. I always give 100%, whether I'm working out at the gym or out playing my last shift of the game. I will continue my passion for hockey with my dream and goal of playing for a Division One college team as I pursue a degree. I will build on my lessons from hockey to help me achieve my education/academic objectives, future career, and beyond.
