Personal Statement

I am a Status Indian and I want to inspire other young indigenous girls to play high level womens hockey with women that work hard and live and breath hockey like myself. I love to win, and work hard to earn it at every practice, dryland and game. I wish to pursue a nursing degree during university and play hockey!

Reference Letters

It gives me great pleasure to provide this letter of reference for Katy Lacosse as she pursues an opportunity to further her hockey career. I coached Katy at the Pilot Mound Hockey Academy during the 2021/2022 season. Katy joined the team and immediately became a leader by example. Her hard work ethic and highly competitive nature were often unmatched. She made those around her better by always giving 110%. Katy grew tremendously as both a player and individual throughout the season. She was always willing and eager to learn and strived to be at the top of her game. Off the ice, Katy worked just as hard. She was dedicated to bettering herself both athletically and academically. Katy was a great friend to her teammates and exemplified mature and desirable attitudes. I enjoyed getting to know Katy and have nothing but great things to say about her character, passion, and work ethic. Katy will be successful in her future endeavours because of her drive for success. It was an absolute pleasure coaching Katy, and I genuinely believe she will be a great addition to any college program. Playing at the collegiate level myself, I know Katy is the kind of teammate and player any team would be lucky to have on and off the ice. I hope you will give her strong consideration as she will surely rise to any standard.  Sincerely,

My name is Brad Platt and I coach Katy this season 21/22. It’s been an absolute pleasure coaching Katy and seeing the growth in her game this year. In my 22 years of coaching I can safely say that she is the hardest working student athlete/ hockey player I’ve coached. She comes to the rink every day with a smile on her face and ready to learn. Katy is a natural leader on and off the ice. On ice she leads by example. Off ice not super vocal but gets along with everyone on the team and also works just as hard at off ice training as the on ice training. Katy has improved quite a bit this season. She handles the puck well and wants it on her stick. She can score, create plays and is very hard to play against. She is getting a lot better at learning how to play without the puck on her stick. Her positioning very good but needs to trust her line mates a bit more but it is hard since for most of the season I’ve been running 2 centre and 4 sets of wingers so she is not always with the same wingers throughout a game.
Katy biggest fault would be putting too much pressure on herself to succeed as an individual and team but from quite a few years of coaching females I found out this is pretty common. Especially girls like Katy that just want to win and get better every day. Katy is a true 200ft player. She gives me 100% at both end of the rink. She still has lots of room for improvement and the good thing is she want too and understands it’s not going to be handed too her and that she will need to work for it.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions about Katy.

My last coach said "This girl leads by example, her work ethic and determination are like no other. She's respected by her team mates and her coaches. She's gifted offensively and she's gifted defensively. She has an exceptional hockey IQ and is able to adapt her game at the coaches request. She makes everyone around her better, she's physical when necessary, she is a huge contributor offensively, and she was a huge reason we had the success this year" Coach Dave Olenik Thunder Bay Queens Bantam AA Coach 2019-2020
