Late in my freshman season, I received a concussion during a close game which sidelined me for five games at the end of the season. These games would determine if my team would qualify for the state tournament and I couldn't play. I was devastated after hearing that I wouldn't be able to play in these games and felt that I let my team down. My team did not qualify for states that year. Missing a few games made me realize how much I love the sport and made me more motivated to become better in all aspects of the game than before I got injured. I continue to work on being a good teammate and being successful, not only athletically but academically as well.
I have been fortunate enough to have grown up in a large family with many older cousins to look up to. Many of them are multi-sport athletes like myself and have experienced some of the same highs and lows I go through. Being a part of a large family and playing multiple sports has helped me become a team player and a leader. The support and encouragement I receive from my family gives me the confidence and drive to accomplish my goals. One of these goals is to become a scholar athlete in college and to be known as a great teammate.
