Lucy Bruening '22 Recruiting Profile

Hello there! My name is Lucy Bruening. I am currently a student-athlete, graduating from Washburn Senior High School in 2022 and play for the Minneapolis Girls High School Hockey Varsity team. In the off-season, I am training for my high school’s summer training program and doing a camp called OS Hockey. I desire to play at the collegiate level and major in Criminology or Exercise sciences for my future career.

I believe that my strong qualities as a player are my drive, mental toughness, strong work ethic, and coachability. I began playing for the Cheyenne Capitals when I was 4 years old while living in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I first started club travel hockey on an all girls team called Omaha Lady Jr. Lancers when I was 9 years old. At first, our team would travel to 3-4 tournaments a year. As I got older the number of tournaments increased and that meant I had to be willing to travel. We would travel across the United States and even to Canada. My junior year of high school was probably my turning point in my travel hockey career because my family decided to move to Minneapolis, Minnesota so I could play for the Minnesota State High School League. 

Both of my parents had such a strong influence on me that I would never have developed an interest in hockey. If it weren't for their constant encouragement to strive for excellence, I would have never been the player that I am today.
