As a student athlete, I've been able to excel at competitive hockey, maintain great marks and also compete at the National level in Sprint Kayak. I've had the opportunity to meet past and future female Olympians (in hockey and sprint kayak) who have provided me with the inspiration to pursue my dreams. My Hockey Story is below...
When I was playing boys hockey I was constantly told by the boys to quit or go play with the girls. I stuck with the boys because that is where I got the most development at the time.
Last fall I was presented with an opportunity to play on the Rothesay Netherwood female varsity hockey team. At first I was not sure I wanted to take the offer because it meant I would have to move away from my family at the age of 13. This was a huge decision but I decided to take it on.
RNS has been an amazing experience so far as I have created bonds with many of my classmates from around the world while playing the game I love. My teachers and coaches have pushed me outside my comfort zone and have helped me become a better student, friend, teammate, athlete and hockey player.
I am absolutely committed to doing whatever it takes to play the highest level of female hockey and believe I will get there with my passion for the game, my work ethic and my character. My short-term goal is to be selected to represent Nova Scotia at the 2019 Canada Games. I will continue to work hard at school to ensure that I will have an opportunity to attend a great college/university and play D1 hockey. My BIG dream is to play on the Canadian Olympic team someday.
