Hockey has been the most significant thing in my life since I was 9, and since then, I've stayed committed to the Hamilton Hawks for over seven seasons.
I began playing ball hockey and attending open skates weekly for about a year, leading me to play house league ice hockey for my first season with the Ancaster Avalanche. The following summer, a friend suggested I try out for the Hamilton Girls Hockey Association (HGHA), and I made the Hamilton Hawks U11B team. Over the next six seasons, I was named captain twice and assistant captain once. I currently play on the Hamilton Hawks U18AA team coached by Terry DeWilde.
Last season on the Hamilton Hawks U18A, I was one of my team's top goal-scorers and point leaders coached by Terry DeWilde. During that same year as a sophomore, I was also a top goal-scorer and point leader on my varsity school team, contributing to being city champs and making it to the Southern Ontario Secondary School Association Championship. Bob Gardiner was the coach who also coached me as a sophomore in Junior Boys Football as a cornerback and Varsity Girls Touch Football as a QB for my freshman and sophomore years. I also have experience playing soccer and lacrosse outside of school.
Outside of sports, I'm passionate about psychology and criminology and plan to learn more about these in post-secondary. Being a student-athlete has taught me a lot; it has helped me improve and develop many skills, such as time management, taking initiative, and making decisions under pressure; overall, I am becoming a harder worker every day. It's difficult, and I have received much support, so I am inspired to pay it forward. I find joy in helping others, learning more about human psychology, and understanding why people act a certain way will help me give others the support they need.
My passion for the game fuels my aspiration to commit to a college/university school and team fully. I am combining my love for the sport and my desire to get an education to start the next chapter of my life.
