I have remember being on skates before I remember walking. I have described this to people before, and I don't intend for this to sound like a brag, but I think I am more comfortable on skates than I am just walking. For me, being on the ice, is the best thing that I can be doing. I love every minute of it, and while I don't share this with my friends (it's not a popular point of view), I even love practices.
I am in grade 12 and I play for Shawn Phillpotts Leaside Wildcats BB team in Toronto where I have been for 6 years. Again, I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging, but I also realize that this is the place to share this kind of information... over the past few years, and as recently as last, I have been invited to join the A and AA teams within the Leaside Wildcats league. I have always agreed to play up and join them in games (last year I got to play against China's junior team with the Wildcats AA team!), but the thought of leaving my team seemed like the wrong choice. I have been the captain of the Philpott team for 3 years. The experience of playing with these girls and becoming the best that we could be, was more appealing (to me at least) than chasing a letter. I don't regret this decision. But I do regret not taping my games, because now that COVID has hit, I don't have anything to show you.
So, I am going to drop the modesty and get passed how uncomfortable it is to describe oneself and say, I am very very fast. I have a really good hard slap shot and I know this game inside and out. It is part of who I am. I played D for many years (my dad and I believed it was a great way to be a better hockey player), and for the past few years I have been centre. I score high and I leave everything on the ice. I also play for my high school team as well as on a competitive soccer team. This probably doesn't matter very much, but I am also the captain of my soccer team. In both cases, my team mates voted me for this position and I've been very grateful for it.
I hope I get a chance to show my skills on a college or university hockey team. I couldn't stand the thought of not playing organized hockey after grade 12.
