Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Rebecca Harris, I am currently a Junior at Brandon Valley High School in Brandon SD.

I have been playing hockey since I was 9 years old.  In my hometown there were not enough girls to have a girls' team, so for my Squirt, Pee Wee, and 1 yr. of Bantam I played with boys, for The Brandon Valley IceCats (on an outdoor rink).  I was the only girl on these teams.  This experience has helped make me a better player.  It pushed me to get tougher, stronger, and faster.  Three seasons ago I decided that I wanted to play on an all-girls team, and that is when I went to play for the Sioux Falls Lady Flyers.

As a Freshman I played on the Varsity Team. I started as a forward however the coaches decided I was a better fit for defense.  Being able to play both positions, has really taught me how to see all of the ice.

This past season 2024-2025 my team went undefeated in league play (21-0).  We were League and State Champions.  Our Championship game went into 5 OTs.  I got the game winning assist.  I was voted Team Assist Captain by my teammates and also made 1st Team All State which is decided by the coaches throughout the state.

For the past five years I have also tried out and made Team SD.  My first year was on a U12 team (developmental), my second year (U14) my team went to Nationals in PA and brought home 3rd place.  In 2023-2024 my U16 team we also went to Nationals in Green Bay WI and brought home 3rd place.  This year my U16 Team went to Nationals in Leesurg VA.

In the classroom I am an A/B student.  I take pride in everything I do. Weather in the classroom or in whatever sport I am playing in.  I do not like to leave projects unfinished.  Starting in my fall semester as a Junior I will be taking a Rising Scholars course for American History.

Playing collegiate hockey has been my goal for quite some time. I am a good teammate always encouraging my teammates, I am at every practice and off ice session.  I have a competitive spirit, and good work ethic.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
