Personal Statement

My name is Yvonne Durfee. My goal in life is to accomplish change within myself and within the world. My world revolves around hockey and school and making me a better player and scholar.

Hockey has changed my life and I want to keep it in my life as long as possible, so I can achieve my goal to play hockey at a collegiate level. Hockey has made me a stronger person mentally, I push myself to be my best and I want to work to make myself better; I am pushing my boundaries to surpass what I think I can do in my life. I have played hockey most of my life and I see it as something that made a personal change for me. This sport is why I am here today trying so hard to make something of myself. Hockey is my passion and my life. I have been broken down and rebuilt and I want to do that at a division school where I can prove that I have the grit needed to play. All I want is to play hockey and make a name for myself in this sport that I can translate into my years after college in the working world, to prove I can be pushed to a better extreme. Within my hockey career, I have grown and shown myself that am a passionately dedicated player and I plan on continuing my passion for hockey no matter what the outcome will be. I think I set myself apart from other players because of my grit, I want to be better and I take time to become an improved skater.

I am very serious about my academics and hope to make it into a school that can teach me how to be better, I want to learn how the world works outside of a small town. I know that hockey is important to me and it's something that I need in my life so I can succeed and progress as a person and a player. I spend my free time working on my skills and my mental boundaries for hockey, I know my skill set and am determined to be a more capable player and I know I can play at a higher level and have so much eagerness to show my skill like I try to do when playing with my teams.
