I have a passion for the earth and am interested in environmental sciences. Over the years I've volunteered and donated for plastic clean up in my community and in marine habitats. I'm proud to say that I have also been the defensive captain for Eagles LAX since I was a freshman. I started playing lacrosse when a friend asked me to learn with her. That was six years ago and we're still playing together. I never truly fell in love with the sport until three years ago when I quit competitive swimming. The game is fascinating to me, everyone plays a role either on or off the field. I've gone from playing defense to mid-field to attack, and back to defense. Defense is by far the greatest position I've played; the feeling of being able to protect your goal on the field is inspiring. It's most meaningful when you know your teammates have your back and they have yours. The bond between you and the other defenders is unbreakable, you learn to know their movements and automatically know what they're thinking.
Lacrosse is starting to become my life but, my education has always come first. I've enjoyed school since I started when I was five years old. I see it as an opportunity to not only improve my intelligence but, to apply what I've learned to the outside world. While yes I receive straight A's for all my classes, I've grown a liking to environmental sciences. Geology, oceanography, and marine biology are subjects I'd like to study more of. Over the course of my summer in 2022, I was fortunate enough to study at Brown's Pre-College and take their Research Methods in Marine Science course. I learned a lot from studying at such a high end school and being able to travel a bit on my own, such as letting yourself have fun and live a little. Marine life hits my heart the most and I want to be part of the percentage who's is trying to save it. Because of this, I've helped my family and I live a better lifestyle to help reduce plastic pollution. Metal straws, glass containers, cloth bags, buying products with less plastic packaging all contribute to the cause.
Over the years, the thing I'm most grateful for is my ability to fluently speak two languages, Spanish and English. I've studied Portuguese on my own as well. My elementary school and middle school had a dual-language program which I was a part of. I started learning Spanish in kindergarten and for the last 11 years. It's amazing to have the ability to be bilingual, it's guided me to help people and it's easier for me to obtain new information. I've travelled to countries where they speak Spanish and I act as a translator for my family. I've embraced the Latin culture and it's a part of me. I'm constantly learning new things and looking for more things to learn.
