Personal Statement

I would like to pursue a degree in biology, and perhaps attend medical school, or persue a career in neuro science. While I study, I would like to play lacrosse, and compete at the highest possible level. My athletic goals include competing for Canada at the 2019 World Championship, and at the Olympics in 2028. I also want to help my university team win a national title, while I work to achieve my academic goals.

I have been playing Box Lacrosse since I was 9 years old, and the women's field game for the last 7 years. I have been participating in a high performance Provincial/National Lacrosse program for the last four years, with year round physical training and floor/field time. I feel that my Box Lacrosse skills have given me an aggressive and unique hybrid field lacrosse style, that has given me the ability and the confidence to work in tight traffic, to make a strong move to the net for a scoring play, or a tight feed to another attacking player.

I enjoy the responsibility that comes with being a leader on my team. I was honored to be selected as the Captain for Nova Scotia's provincial women's team, that competed for our national title this year. I have also been my club team captain for the last 4 seasons. I believe strongly in leadership by example, both on and off the field, and with the time I invest in practicing, theory, and my gym training.

I play a very aggressive, attacking style. My box background has given me the ability to pay special attention to roaming, opposing goal tenders, and defensive ball carriers in the offensive zone.

I love to fill my opponent's net, but I also take pride and satisfaction from a perfectly placed pass, resulting in a scoring opportunity. Last season, in 13 box lacrosse Games, I had 61 points. 43 Goals and 18 assists. This fall, in our womens field lacrosse league, I scored over 60 goals, with more than 30 assists as well, in 15 games.

I am looking for an opportunity to fulfill both my academic, and my athletic goals, through personal development and my commitment to being the very best I can be.

I invite your reviews, assessments and any comments you may have, that will help me to find the opportunity I am seeking.

Thank you for your consideration

Jessie Hynes
