I love the sport of rowing because what I put into it is what I get back. The confirmation that my hard work amounts to real results has helped to me push myself into a hard working and motivated athlete. I want to take this sport as far as I can, at least to the university level. Making the Junior National Team in Grade 11 has made me hopeful to attend Junior World Championships in my senior year. When I stop competing, I want to have reached the top of my potential. The team atmosphere in rowing also draws me in. Something about training, travelling, and laughing together as group provides a very strong sense of family with all crews I have had the pleasure to row in. I also love academics. Just like rowing, I appreciate how the harder I work the more I can accomplish. Self-motivation is something that has helped me to become the athlete I am today. Currently I train about 18 hours a week with my team, and then I complete an additional 4 hours a week on my own time ( strength training ). I am not a stereotypical rower, especially considering my height, but I put in the extra hours to make sure that I have done everything possible to be the best athlete I can.
